Our client, Winnipeg School Division
(WSD), the largest school division in Manitoba, is seeking an innovative
and progressive individual to lead the division into the future.
Serving a diverse community of students from nursery to grade 12
and adult learners, WSD’s mission is to “provide a learning
environment that promotes and fosters the growth of each student’s
potential and provides an opportunity for the individual student
to develop the knowledge, skills, and values necessary for meaningful
participation in a global and pluralistic society”. As the

variety of educational programs and services to meet the needs of
a very diverse community.
The
Position
The Chief Superintendent of Schools
reports to an elected Board of Trustees and is responsible for the
effective leadership, management, and direction of the school division
including the success of a variety of innovative, progressive and
diverse multi-disciplinary academic programs, a budget of approximately
$309 million and the growth, safety and achievement of approximately
33,000 students across 77 schools. A highly qualified central and
school based administration team supports the Chief Superintendent
in executing the plans and priorities of the division.
Experience & Knowledge Requirements:
A minimum of seven to ten years of progressive experience in senior
and school administration in a large, complex school division and
a Masters’ degree in education or education administration,
or equivalent, are required. Extensive experience working in a highly
diverse academic, cultural and social environment is necessary,
as is a strong understanding of site-based management and how government
policy impacts the delivery of educational programs and services.
The demonstrated ability to work and communicate effectively with
an elected board and a wide variety of educational stakeholders
including students, teachers, support staff, parents, unions, and
government and community agencies is essential. The Chief Superintendent
of Schools must demonstrate strong administrative management skills,
an ability to effectively lead the implementation of strategic plans,
and influence a collaborative environment and culture within an
organization through successful communication, understanding the
needs and interests of stakeholders, and a clear understanding of
positive employee relations. Specific experience with Aboriginal
Education initiatives, Vocational Education, English as an Additional
Language and Special Education Programs and Services are assets.
